danielle gisiger grew up in Italy and Switzerland where she trained to be a couturiere in an "old world " ateliers. after living in West Africa for many months, at age 19, she returned to Switzerland to study fashion design at the academy of art and design Basel. Her years in Italy and the sensibility of her mothers taste for art and fashion, as well as her extensive travels all around the world influenced greatly her style and visuals. she first arrived in New York City on an artist grant in 1990, and fell in love with the city and its multi cultured, fast paced, open minded vibe. She then soon opened her own ateliers ATELIERS DANIELLE GISIGER LTD in a vast loft in Chelsea, still the center of her operations today. There she focused on creating couture pieces as well as developing entire lines for a private and corporate clientele. simultaneously she sharpened her eyes and senses in styling, working with numerous influential magazines quite often featuring her designs. She instantly felt at home in the fashion wonderland of the nineties, always focused back on creating, working in her atelier with fabrics and shapes, cutting and draping.
" there is a luxury and freedom in capturing a mood of society using gorgeous materials ..." she says. the quality of her work is present in the entire process, not just the design. she has a highly qualified team of cutters and tailors working closely with her. in 2009 she founded PAILLETTS to propel the launch of her line " exclusive shapes-limited runs " and opened a store in Sag Harbor, Long Island. the line offers a wide range of pret -a -porter including hats, another passion of danielle's. for the past 25 years she created dreams in fabric for the modern woman, focusing on feminine modern shapes combined with a new sensibility for materials. " everything is an inspiration: mosaic floors in an italian ruin, cracked salt in a desert, concrete structures in a harbor, girls on the streets of new york.." In 2015 she opened a store on the North Fork, Long island that also hosts her hat laboratory / hat shop, where she teaches hat classes and holds style -fashion workshops.
